Hydro Hero · Last updated July 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Dylan Matuschka ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Hydro Hero mobile application (the "App"). Hydro Hero is designed to be local-first: there is no Hydro Hero account, no Hydro Hero server, and most of your data never leaves your device. By using the App you agree to the practices described here. Questions? Email us at WIMSBY1@icloud.com.
Hydration logs. Your daily water-intake entries, beverage types, goals, streaks, and badges are stored entirely on your device using iOS local storage. There is no Hydro Hero server that holds a copy of your data, and no cloud sync. If you delete the app, all of this data is gone.
Apple Health data. If you grant permission, the App reads and writes water-consumption records to Apple HealthKit. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to our servers (we have no servers). We use it only to keep your HealthKit record up to date with what you log in the App.
Squad feature. If you use the Squad feature, you generate a short "progress code" containing your chosen username and summary stats (hydration percent for the day, streak, etc.). You share this code manually (via Messages, email, AirDrop, QR code, etc.) with people you choose. Hydro Hero does not transmit Squad data to any server; codes pass directly through whatever channel you choose.
Camera (QR scanner). If you scan a Squad QR code, the App uses the camera to read the on-screen code. Nothing the camera sees is recorded, stored, or transmitted; the image data is processed in-memory only to decode the QR string. You can deny camera permission at any time in iOS Settings — the rest of the App still works, you just won't be able to scan codes.
Microphone (Custom Sounds). If you record your own splash or goal-celebration sound, the App uses the microphone for the duration of that recording. Recordings are saved to your device's app sandbox and are never uploaded or shared with us or any third party. They are deleted automatically when you uninstall the App or overwrite the slot.
Notifications. If you enable hydration reminders, notifications are scheduled locally on your device by iOS. We do not collect or transmit a push notification token — there is no server that pushes notifications, every reminder is scheduled and delivered locally.
Purchase information. Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by Apple's App Store and managed through RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives an anonymous device identifier (not linked to your identity) and your subscription/purchase status. We never see or receive your payment card details.
Crash and error reports. If the App crashes or hits an unexpected error, diagnostic information (stack trace, device model, iOS version) is sent to Sentry to help us identify and fix bugs. These reports do not include your hydration data or personally identifiable information.
Location & weather. If you grant permission, the App briefly accesses your approximate location (low accuracy) and sends those approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo, a third-party weather service, to look up the current local temperature so it can suggest extra hydration on hot days. Your coordinates are used only for this temperature lookup. We do not store your location on your device or on any server, and it is not used to identify you. If you deny location permission, this feature is simply skipped.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
| Third party | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| RevenueCat | In-app purchase management | Anonymous device ID, subscription status |
| Sentry | Crash and error reporting | Stack traces, device model, iOS version (no PII, no hydration data) |
| Open-Meteo | Local temperature lookup (only if you enable location) | Approximate latitude/longitude |
| Apple Inc. | App distribution, payments, HealthKit, notifications | Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy |
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Hydro Hero accesses Apple HealthKit to read and write water-intake data. Health data is processed entirely on your device and is never shared with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party not listed in this policy. We will not use HealthKit data for advertising or for any purpose not disclosed here.
Hydro Hero stores nearly all of your data locally on your device: the drink log, goals, streak, custom recorded sounds, Family profiles, quick-add presets, badges, and Missions progress. Because there is no Hydro Hero account and no cloud sync, we do not hold your hydration data on any server — there is nothing to delete on the server side.
A small amount of data may exist with our third-party providers:
To request deletion of any of the above, email WIMSBY1@icloud.com with "Data deletion request" in the subject line. We will confirm within 7 days and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Your hydration data is stored locally on your device using iOS's built-in storage protections. The limited data we transmit to RevenueCat and Sentry is sent over TLS. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, but we take commercially reasonable steps to protect your information.
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will address it.
Depending on your location you may have the right to:
Because Hydro Hero is local-first, most of these rights you can exercise yourself by managing data inside the App. For anything else, email us at WIMSBY1@icloud.com. We will respond within 30 days.
We do not sell personal information. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of sale (not applicable here). To submit a request, email WIMSBY1@icloud.com.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
